Assessment Officers - Screening Unit

The DCSI Screening Unit provides screening services for organisations and people who want to work with children, people with disability, people in aged care and general employment probity.

Screening checks help to identify people who pose a risk to children or the vulnerable. Screening is monitored and uses the latest information to identify any changes that affect the clearance status of individuals.

DCSI is currently recruiting for Assessment Officers as well as Senior Assessment Officers. If you have qualifications and/or experience in areas such as:

  • Child protection; Psychology; Justice; Corrective services; Law; Social Work; and are skilled in
  • managing interactions with difficult people; writing objective, clear and succinct reports/documents; managing unconscious bias; self-awareness and the capacity to de-brief and/or seek assistance, we encourage you to apply for a position with the DCSI Screening Unit.

The DCSI Screening Unit does monitor and evaluate the health and wellbeing of each person who works in the Screening Unit and provides support as needed.

Assessment Officer (ASO4)

The Assessment Officer is a role within the DCSI Screening Unit and is accountable to the Team Leader - Assessment for:

  • Assisting with decision making on a persons’ suitability to work with children and vulnerable people;
  • Conducting relevant history assessments on child protection, criminal history information and screening in accordance with low risk assessment procedures;
  • Preparing and writing assessment briefings in regard to criminal offending;
  • Providing a high quality effective administrative assessment support service to achieve the Screening Unit objectives and;
  • Developing and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Senior Assessment Officer (ASO5)

The Senior Assessment Officer is a role within the DCSI Screening Unit and is accountable to the Team Leader - Assessment for:

  • Assisting with decision making on a persons’ suitability to work with children and vulnerable people by conducting relevant history assessments and screening in accordance with medium/high risk procedures;
  • Conducting interviews, preparing and writing assessment briefings regarding medium/high risk relevant history assessments, and screening
  • Developing and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Special Conditions:

These are temporary/term vacancies up to 12 months. Successful applicants will be required to satisfactorily complete a Background Screening and National Criminal History Record Check (NCHRC) prior to being employed and every three years thereafter.

Qualifications in areas such as social science, psychology, justice, criminology, law, social work or an accredited course assessing interview techniques are desirable.

Additional Notes:

  • You are not required to address the Role Description criteria.

  • The pool will operate for a period of up to 12 months and recommended applicants will be eligible for employment opportunities for temporary/term vacancies.

Role Status: Term up to 12 months

Current Salary Range:
$67,635 - $70,762 (ASO4 Assessment Officer)
$75,430 - $84,497 (ASO5 Senior Assessment Officer)
