Information for Domiciliary Care clients - what do the changes mean for me?

These questions and answers are for people currently receiving services from Domiciliary Care.  Alternative format Domiciliary Care Client FAQs available here (DOCX 184.0 KB).

We will be writing to all our clients about the future change in management.  You can also call the information line on 1800 952 962 between 8am – 6pm, Monday to Friday, or email questions to us at dcsifuturedirections@sa.gov.au.

What will be changing for me? I am happy with my care.

We’re proud of our good reputation and history of providing quality care and support for older South Australians.

We will work to make sure that the same level of quality care continues with new management. We also expect that many staff will transfer with the service to new management, which will help maintain relationships with your carers.

Do non-government organisations deliver quality services for older people?

The Commonwealth Government ensures the quality, standards and accreditation of all aged care service providers. All government and non-government organisations have to meet the same quality assurance and safeguarding arrangements.

Will my fees increase in the future?

Your services will continue through My Aged Care, even if Domiciliary Care moves under new management.  Aged care funding guidelines are set by the Commonwealth Government.

We will negotiate for the fees and services set by Domiciliary Care for clients to continue as part of the change in management.

Is this change related to the fee increase?

No.  Aged care fee funding guidelines are set by the Commonwealth and there is now an expectation that people contribute to cost of the services they receive. Domiciliary Care increased fees in response to Commonwealth requirements and the change brings our fees in line with other service provider charges.

I am on a waiting list for a Home Care Package – does this affect my situation?

No. Transferring Domiciliary Care to non-government management will not affect your position on the wait list for a Home Care Package. You are on a waiting list because you have been assessed as eligible for a Home Care Package. The move to non-government management will not change your care needs. It is important that you don’t take your name off of the list.

You will be supported to move to your Home Care Package when the appropriate level of care is available.  This support will be consistent under the new management.

Will the changes affect who is eligible for services provided by Domiciliary Care?

No. Eligibility for aged care services is managed by the Commonwealth.  Any services, government or non-government, are required to operate within the same arrangements.

What will happen for younger people in Domiciliary Care?

Domiciliary Care services for people under 65 years of age (50 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders) and funded by the State Government will continue and be considered for transfer to new management.

What is happening to the equipment services provided by Domiciliary Care?

All current equipment and home modification services will continue as normal and Domiciliary Equipment Services (DES) will continue to welcome new clients.  DES will have to change the way it delivers services under the Commonwealth aged care reforms and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). It may be, like Domiciliary Care, moved to non-government management in the future, but consultation will occur.

Can I have a say in the changes?

Yes.  Clients, carers and staff will be asked what is important to them in any transfer of services, including what they value in Domiciliary Care’s current services to make sure it continues.

How can I keep up-to-date about the changes?

We will be writing to all our clients about the future change in management.  You can also call the information line on 1800 952 962 between 8am – 6pm, Monday to Friday, or email questions to us at dcsifuturedirections@sa.gov.au.
