2015 Multicultural Festival on today in Rundle Mall

South Australia's premier multicultural event – the 2015 Multicultural Festival - is on in Rundle Mall from 11am today.

Up to 80,000 visitors are expected to enjoy the colour, flavours and excitement of the biennial festival.

Multicultural Affairs Minister Zoe Bettison said the free event features more than 40 world music and dance performances across two main stages.

"The festival brings together 60 multicultural groups representing more than 40 different ethnicities in a wonderful celebration of South Australia's rich cultural diversity," she said.

"As well, some of Adelaide's favourite media personalities will be on hand to host formalities including Keith Conlon, Kate Collins and Emma Rebellato.

"There will also be cooking displays with culinary personalities Cheong Liew and MasterChef's Laura Cassai.

"More than 30 stalls will tempt festival goers with culinary delights from across the globe, as well as an exciting range of arts, crafts and family friendly activities.

Highlight acts at this year's event will include:
* the Adelaide Marathi Mandal's thunderous drummers
* the Adelaide Folkloric Society's Irish dancers
* the Brazilian Association of South Australia's Capoeira Martial Art displays of dance, acrobatics and music
* activities including calligraphy, lantern making and face painting.

"South Australia is home to people from more than 200 countries, and about 230,000 South Australians speak languages other than English at home," Ms Bettison said.

"The Multicultural Festival is a great opportunity to celebrate and experience South Australia's diversity with family and friends and to meet some of our newest migrant communities."
