Asian night markets a hive of music and visual performances
Tonight's opening of the Asian night markets will transform Adelaide Festival Centre's river deck into a late night bazaar with food, festoon lighting, live music and visual arts.
Part of the OzAsia Festival, the night markets received a one-off $10,000 grant from Multicultural SA for culturally diverse local music, dance and visual artists to entertain market goers.
Multicultural Affairs Minister Zoe Bettison said the performances will provide South Australians with a unique and authentic taste of Asia's bustling night markets.
"This year, artists from diverse cultural backgrounds will perform as part of the event, contributing to the exciting market atmosphere," she said.
"Anyone who has travelled to Asian cities will testify to the wonderful experiences that can be had at the night markets.
"Multicultural SA has partnered Adelaide Festival Centre Foundation to provide this rich experience here in Adelaide.
"The OzAsia Festival is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate South Australia's rich cultural diversity, while supporting local artists."
Earlier this year, the State Government announced that it would triple investment in our multicultural communities, providing an extra $8 million over four years.
"South Australia has a rich multicultural tradition and this new funding will help increase our awareness and engagement with our cultural diversity, while helping our multicultural community groups to participate in the social and economic life of our state," Ms Bettison said.
"Multicultural SA Grants support events and organisations that instil pride in our cultural and migrant communities, and celebrate our diversity."
OzAsia's Asian Night Market is open from Thursday 24 September to Sunday 4 October 2015.
The Moon Lantern Festival will be held on Sunday 27 September 2015 from 4pm-8.30pm.
