Hotline for fire-affected individuals, families and communities

2015-01-04

Fire affected South Australians can access the services they need by calling the SA Bushfire Recovery Hotline on 1800 302 787.

From today, the SA Bushfire Recovery Hotline will be activated for people who have lost their home, suffered trauma or other loss – or for those wanting provide financial donations to support impacted communities.

Meanwhile, Emergency Relief Centres are currently operating at Golden Grove and Willaston, providing information and services including food, financial assistance and accommodation.

Premier Jay Weatherill said emergency grants of up to $700 are available to help people with essential items such as food and clothing.

"The emergency grants help with immediate and essential needs when families or individuals are unable to provide for themselves," he said.

"The grants provide for up to $280 per adult, and up to $140 per child, to a maximum of $700 per family."

Minister for Communities and Social Inclusion Zoe Bettison said the State Government will also assist with up to two weeks emergency accommodation for people unable to return to their homes.

"We will provide accommodation for individuals and families who are unable to return home due to damage, road closures and the like," she said.

"Further assistance is available for people who have lost their home and are without insurance or income, and who meet other eligibility criteria."

The State Recovery Office works with government and non-government sectors to increase the South Australia's disaster recovery capacity.

Other State Government agencies are contributing services including first aid, interpreters and companion animal care.

People should tune into their radio or visit www.cfs.sa.gov.au or call 1300 362 361 for the latest information on the bushfire.

Those wanting to assist the recovery effort can volunteer by registering on the Volunteering SA/NT website at www.volunteeringsa.org.au
