2015-09-02

Nominations are now open for the 2015 Governor's Multicultural Awards which recognise individuals and organisations making an outstanding contribution to multiculturalism in South Australia.

Multicultural Affairs Minister Zoe Bettison said South Australia's diverse cultural communities greatly enrich our way of life.

"These important awards celebrate South Australians who have contributed to our harmonious society by promoting the benefits of cultural diversity in our community," Ms Bettison said.

"More than ever our community needs strong advocates for inclusion and understanding, and these awards are a great way to acknowledge local leaders in this field."

Earlier this year, 42 finalists and 14 winners of the 2014 Awards were recognised including TAFE SA for implementing programs to tackle racism and promote literacy and communication skills for adult migrants and refugees. Other 2014 winners included Roxby Downs Multicultural Forum and Football Federation South Australia, as well as many outstanding individuals.

Award categories for 2015 are:
* Arts and culture (individual and organisation)
* Community sector (individual and organisation)

The Governor's Multicultural Awards are presented by His Excellency the Governor of South Australia, on the advice of an independent judging panel chosen in consultation with the Multicultural Communities Council of SA.

Nominations for the awards are open until Friday, 9 October, 2015, and winners will be announced at a ceremony at Government House in early 2016.
