Celebrate on the Square disability march, expo and celebration on today

2016-12-02

Rachael Leahcar will headline today’s entertainment at South Australia’s International Day of People with Disability celebrations in Victoria Square from 11am to 1.30pm.

More than 20 organisations will be showcasing their support services and equipment, as well as live entertainment and food.

The event follows the IDPwD march from Parliament House to the Square which assembles at 10.30am.

The day aims to promote awareness and action to uphold the dignity and rights of people with disability, as well as enabling opportunities and belonging for everyone.

It is an opportunity to celebrate the valuable contributions of South Australians with disability and to promote universal access and participation.

Minister for Disabilities, Leesa Vlahos said:

International Day of People with Disability is an important day to recognise the contribution that people living with disability, their families and carers, make to our community.

I encourage all South Australians to show their support for people with disability, and celebrate their achievements, by attending today’s Celebrate on the Square event, or by attending one of the other IDPWD events around the state.

With the National Disability Insurance Scheme rolling-out to more than 32,000 people with disability across South Australia, today’s event is a good opportunity for people to seek out information and support.

Many organisations providing services under the NDIS will be participating in today’s event so today is also a good opportunity for people living with disability to come out and discuss their needs and learn about what services are on offer.
