Free event and services available in support of World Continence Week

2016-06-20

South Australians are encouraged to take advantage of free continence services and events during World Continence Week (20-26 June).

World Continence Week encourages people to adopt healthy bladder and bowel habits to prevent and improve incontinence.

Incontinence can be a difficult and embarrassing issue, and can have a big effect on confidence and quality of life. More than 4.8 million Australians experience bladder or bowel problems.

The Department for Communities and Social Inclusion has services available for people with continence concerns, through the Continence Resource Centre and Child and Youth Services.

Continence Resource Centre

The Continence Resource Centre is a free state-wide information and advisory service available to all the community. It is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and is located at the Independent Living Centre, 11 Blacks Road, Gilles Plains.

There will be a Continence Education Forum on 29 June. This is aimed particularly at people working in disability care at Minda SA.

The forum will be held from 10am to 11.30am at the SA Learning Centre, Minda SA, King George Avenue, Brighton. To attend, please register by emailing continence@sa.gov.au or phoning (08) 8266 5260.

Child and Youth Services

Child and Youth Services offers information, advice and support to children and young people with a disability, and their families. This support covers all aspects of toilet training, to help children and young people with disability to learn independent toileting skills.

Specialist child development therapists work with families and other care providers (such as childcare and schools) to plan an individual toilet training program.
