Groups supporting Pinery fire-affected communities can apply for one off payments

2016-09-16

Applications for one-off payments of up to $5000 are now open to community groups and organisations supporting community recovery after the Pinery fire.

The payments are for community projects that improve strength and resilience, engagement, health and wellbeing or build capacity of communities affected by the Pinery fire.

The State Emergency Relief Fund Committee has made the funds available through its Community Strength and Resilience Initiative.

The Committee has already distributed more than $2 million from the SA Pinery Fire Appeal to people affected by the fire.

The Community Strength and Resilience Community Projects are funded from donations to the SA Pinery Fire Appeal, meaning that every dollar donated to the appeal will help those affected by the Pinery fire.

The payments will be awarded to projects that respond to an identified local need and help build more inclusive, engaged and safe communities.

For more information about the payments, including guidelines and application forms, visit www.sa.gov.au/emergencies/pineryfire or call (08) 8463 6405.

People can also visit the Pinery Fire Recovery Centre in Gawler or their local council office for more information. Applications are open until 31 October 2016.

Quotes attributable to Communities and Social Inclusion Minister Zoe Bettison

I encourage community groups and organisations helping the communities affected by the Pinery fire to apply for a one-off monetary payment.

Sporting, cultural and other community organisations are of the lifeblood of our regions and I encourage these groups to apply.

Quotes attributable to the Local Recovery Coordinator Alex Zimmerman

The process of community recovery after a fire is often long and difficult. It demonstrates the importance of community support and resilience.

Projects that support the strength and resilience of the community after the Pinery fire will be vital to the community’s medium and long-term recovery.

I encourage any organisations working with the Pinery fire affected community to apply for a payment to help them continue their important work.
