Next round of payments to support fire affected communities

More than 50 families who lost their homes in the Pinery fire will share in $255,000 as part of the latest round of funds being distributed from the SA Pinery Fire Appeal.

Communities and Social Inclusion Minister Zoe Bettison said money from the appeal is going to those most in need to help them rebuild and recover.

"The $255,000 to be distributed in this latest round will go to 55 families and individuals whose homes were destroyed or rendered uninhabitable," Ms Bettison said.

"The community, corporate sector and State Government have donated more than $2 million to the appeal to date, which is a terrific show of support.

"With so many people impacted by this devastating fire, and the significant losses to properties and businesses, I'm pleased to see this money is helping people to rebuild their lives."

All funds donated to the SA Pinery Fire Appeal, and any interest incurred, goes directly to people and communities affected by the fire.

So far, $65,000 has been distributed to the families of people who lost their lives and to those who sustained serious injuries.

The SA Pinery Fire Appeal is managed by the State Emergency Relief Fund Committee.

Committee chair, Joe Ullianich, said all donated funds are distributed appropriately and fairly to people and communities who have been impacted.

"Payments are a gift from the community and do not affect any insurance or other compensation entitlements," Mr Ullianich said.

"We encourage anyone who was injured or suffered loss or damage due to the Pinery fire to apply to the fund for a monetary gift to help them rebuild and recover.

"The committee meets regularly to review and approve applications, and almost 300 applications have already been received.

"We take a cautious and rigorous approach to the process to ensure sufficient funds will be available to meet all eligible applications.

"Given recent experience with the Sampson Flat fire, many applications were received months after the fire."
