Extreme heat welfare check could be a life saver

2017-10-10

People who are vulnerable during extreme heat events are advised to register with the Red Cross Telecross REDi service before summer.

Some people can be at greater risk than others in the community during hot weather. For example, people who:

  • live alone
  • have disability or ongoing illness such as diabetes or a heart condition
  • are experiencing mental illness
  • are housebound, frail or aged
  • are recovering from an illness or accident.

Telecross REDi is activated by the State Government during periods of very hot weather. Trained Red Cross volunteers phone registered clients to check on how they are coping and provide information on support services if needed.

You or your representative can register for this service.
