Life Without Barriers relaunches Riverland Services today

2014-09-24

Social Housing Minister Zoe Bettison today congratulated Life Without Barriers on the relaunch of its Riverland services.

"Life Without Barriers provides care and support services for refugees, families with children in out of home care and people experiencing homelessness," Ms Bettison said.

"It is wonderful to see that Life Without Barriers is committed to the Riverland area which is demonstrated by new premises and facilities being opened today.

"In the Riverland, Life Without Barriers delivers a number of services, including homelessness services through the Riverland Homelessness Assertive Outreach Program (RHAOP).

"The RHAOP is one of several specialist homelessness programs developed as part of sector-wide reforms in 2010 to reduce homelessness through better addressing the needs of people at risk of, or currently experiencing homelessness.

"This program provides pathways out of homelessness by delivering housing as a first response, to end rough sleeping and is delivered in partnership with the Exceptional Needs Unit in Disability SA.

"The program is targeted at people in the Riverland who are sleeping rough, possibly in their cars or in makeshift accommodation, and who have social or functional impairments which limit their capacity to access mainstream services.

"In the 2012-13 financial year, the RHAOP assisted 98 people to get back on their feet.

"This financial year, the State Government is providing more than $400,000 towards the program.

"The South Australian Government is proud to support such an important organisation and we look forward to seeing its future achievements in addressing homelessness in the Riverland."
