Free replacement of documents for Sampson Flat fire communities

2015-01-20

People who had important documents such as driving licences or birth certificates destroyed or lost in the Sampson Flat bushfire will be able to have them replaced free of charge.

Minister for Communities and Social Inclusion Zoe Bettison said that several Government agencies would waive administrative fees to support people as they re-establish their lives following the bushfire in early January.

"We want to make the recovery process as simple as possible and the free replacement of important documents and identification is one another way the government can support community members as they rebuild after the bushfire," Ms Bettison said.

"People can have their valid driving licences, permits, number plates and vehicle registrations replaced for free, as well as birth, death and marriage certificates.

"The government will also waive late and other fees that people incur as a result of the bushfire.

"The Commonwealth Government will also replace any Medicare or Health Care cards destroyed in the fire."

People can visit the Sampson Flat Bushfire Recovery Centre, located in the Torrens Valley Community Centre, 45 Albert Street, Gumeracha, for more information on how they can access these free services and begin to replace their documents.
