Torrens Valley Community Centre to house bushfire recovery centre

2015-01-15

The Sampson Flat bushfire recovery effort will be based out of the Torrens Valley Community Centre, 45 Albert Street, Gumeracha.

Communities and Social Inclusion Minister Zoe Bettison said the Sampson Flat recovery centre will be operational from 8.30am tomorrow, Friday, 16 January.

Meanwhile, the emergency relief centre at Golden Grove Recreation Centre will close permanently from 7pm tonight.

"The Sampson Flat recovery centre will support the ongoing recovery and rebuilding efforts of the local Adelaide Hills community," Ms Bettison said.

"It will be a central place for the community to meet, access information, advice and support.

"Recovery coordinator Karlene Maywald will be based at the centre along with a community development officer."

Ms Bettison also encouraged South Australians affected by the Sampson Flat fire to apply for money donated to the State Emergency Relief Fund.

"The generosity of everyday South Australians, along with many from within the business and corporate sectors, has been overwhelming," she said.

"The State Emergency Relief Fund has collected more than $1.4 million in donations since the bushfire relief appeal was launched on Saturday, 3 January.

"An application form is now available online at www.sa.gov.au/recovery for people to apply to access the money donated by the community to help them rebuild from this disaster.

"All applications will be assessed by the State Emergency Relief Fund Committee which includes representatives from community and government, and has an independent chair.

"Anyone who suffered significant loss or damage as a result of the bushfire is encouraged to apply and priority will be given to people whose primary place of residence was within the fire area.

"The committee will assess the overall impact of the fire when determining payments and consider damage to homes and other structures, vehicles, equipment and animals as well as the impact on income or livelihoods and the community when reviewing applications.

"Any information provided in the form will be confidential to the members of the committee."
