Funding Assistance available for volunteers

2013-08-29

South Australian volunteer organisations are being encouraged to apply for State Government grants of up to $3,000.

Minister for Volunteers Tony Piccolo said applications were now open for grants funded through the $150,000 Volunteer Support Fund.

"Volunteers do tremendous work in our community – helping the vulnerable and disadvantaged, and this grants program is an important way of helping those people and organisations who strive to make a difference in the lives of others," Mr Piccolo said.

"Grants provided through the Volunteer Support Fund can make a valuable difference in helping volunteer groups

"These one-off grants benefit organisations and volunteers by directly encouraging volunteering, and assisting volunteers in their roles."

Mr Piccolo said the grants would allow local organisations to provide extra training and resources for their volunteers.

"Last year, a total of 115 community organisations from across the metropolitan and regional area received grants to help the community," Mr Piccolo said.

"I encourage eligible community-based, not-for-profit organisations to apply for this year's grants."

Successful grant recipients in 2012 included:

  • Monarto CFS Brigade, which purchased an automated external defibrillatorMuscular
  • Dystrophy Association, to develop a 'buddy-up' program to recruit and train volunteers
  • Enfield Baptist Church, to purchase tools for a volunteers men's shed
  • Royal Society for the Blind of SA, to buy furniture for a volunteer rest area, and
  • Whitelion, to provide first aid training and grief and loss training for volunteers.
